After hearing Childish Gambino – This is America for the first time I was hooked. Like most people, the beat, the lyrics and the video were all something I wanted more of. Obviously, given the graphic content, the video was not something I was able to watch while Clara was awake. We have however, played the song via Spotify a number of times for her and she friggen loves it. She loves it so much she busted out a brand new dance move while sitting in her high chair. It resembled pop-and-lock style chest movements and shoulder shimmies. It’s amazing.
Now I play it daily just see her wiggle to the beat. It’s quite the site to behold, and makes me smile.
I’ve been a fan of Childish Gambino – A.K.A Donald Glover – since Bonfire (very NSFW) and a fan of Donald since Community (Troy and Abed in the mmmmoooorrrrnnnniiiinnnnnnggggg) and now I’m an even bigger fan.
Here is his version of This Is America on SNL. It’s suitable to watch for children, in fact Clara loves the kids dancing, and has no swears in it. Enjoy!
