Meytal Cohen Drumming

Music Monday – Meytal Cohen

It’s Music Monday! A segment where I share what music Clara and I are listening to. These songs will be great for parents and toddlers alike.

As I mentioned in the About me section, music is a big part of my life. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 15 and have been the rhythm guitar player and lead singer for a couple of bands including Crooked Temple.  I’ve also been the bass player for a heavy metal band called Train Bigger Monkeys.  Needless to say when we found out we were pregnant with Clara, I knew that music was going to be a part of her life.

Clara will still never believe I was cool

Since Clara was born, I have sang to her and played guitar for her on a daily basis and now that she is a little older she’s started dancing along and clapping after each song. We frequently play the drums and piano, that reside in our basement and, like most parents of young toddlers, we listen to You’re Welcome from the Moana soundtrack 4,000 times a day.

I don’t believe that kids only need to listen to ‘kids’ music and ‘songs for toddlers,’ so I have made a concerted effort to introduce Clara to the music that me and her mom love. I’ve also put an emphasis on showing her strong and talented women and this weeks Music Monday pick is just that.

Meytal – Songs for toddlers?

Meytal became a YouTube star in 2009 with a video of her and her friends covering System of a Down’s Toxicity. Since then she has made hundreds of videos, released a debut original album titled Alchemy and gone on tour with Queensryche and Halcyon Way. She has currently wrapped up a successful funding campaign and has started working on her sophomore album.

So for this introductory Music Monday I introduce Meytal Cohen’s cover of Tool – 46&2 filmed in beautiful British Columbia on the side of a mountain.
