In case you have forgotten, Father’s Day is Sunday, June 17, which means it is nearly upon us. I think I’m the easiest person ever to shop for, however, my wife seems to often disagree. So, for struggling wive’s and children alike, I’ve put together a list of 9 things you can get Dad for Father’s Day.
This list has a little bit of something for everyone. Some Dad’s love tech gadgets, some love a fine wine, and who doesn’t love (or at least need) clothes? And while there are many cliche’s of Dad’s heading off to hide from their families on Father’s Day, there are even more Dad’s that would love to spend the day with their kids doing fun activities.
Here are 9 things you can get Dad for Father’s Day.
1. Amazon Echo
For all the tech loving Dad’s out there an Amazon Echo is the coolest thing around. I don’t personally own one, but if I did I imagine it would be exactly like being on the Star Trek Enterprise and chatting with the computer.
2. A Wallet From Populess Co.

I have owned one of their wallets for a few years now, and I love it! It was made from the same leather as a baseball glove so the smell brings me back to my little league days every time I use it (shut up, it’s not weird to sniff your wallet … right?).
3. A Toro Lawnmower
I’ve written before about my love affair with my grass, and those feelings are not tempered any by firing up my Toro lawnmower. There are a lot of great mower brands out there, but for me Toro has always been the best.
4. A Tissot Watch
I may be biased – as I own one of their watches myself – but Tissot are some of the best watches on the market. Since 1853, Tissot has been making elegant and stylish watches made with impeccable movements.
One of the things I like most about Tissot watches is their accessibility. They have watches for every price point which means if you really want to spoil Dad you can, but if you have a tight budget than there is a watch for you as well! The watch I’ve listed below is simple and elegant, making it a great gift for Father’s Day.
5. A Family Hike
Father’s Day doesn’t necessarily have to be about gifts. If the Dad in your life is anything like me than he appreciates experiences just as much – or more – than gifts. Head out to the mountains and treat Dad to some beautiful views on hikes like Grassi Lakes Trail.
6. Wine
Scotch seems to be the go to alcohol for advertisers around Father’s Day, but personally I only know one Dad that drinks scotch and many more that drink wine. As a former wine writer for the now extinct Calgary Is Awesome website, you can take my word for it when I say that these two wines are great and are sure to bring a smile to the face of the Dad in your life.
Merkin Vineyards
My first choice is Merkin Vineyards Chupacabra Red. Merkin Vineyards is owned by Maynard James Keenan known primarily as the lead singer of Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. When he’s not touring and making music, he’s running his vineyards in Arizona. Maynard personally has a hand in doing everything in the production process, and this particular wine has become a favourite of mine. You can check it out at J Webb in Calgary.
Purple Hands
My second wine choice is a Pinot Noir from a Vineyard in Oregon called Purple Hands. This is a family run vineyard and home to one of the best tasting Pinot Noir’s I’ve ever had. Grab this wine at J Webb.
7. A Round Of Golf
It may be cliche, but that’s because for those of us that like golfing, this is a chance to get out guilt free for a day on the links. Sometimes a classic is a classic for a reason. There are many great courses around the city like one of my personal favourites, The Canal at Delacour, or why not get Dad a round in the mountains at the newly re-opened Kananaskis Country Golf Course. At the time of publishing, there were tee times available at both courses for the Father’s Day weekend.
8. A Day In Fish Creek
As I mentioned in this post about Fish Creek Park, it’s a great place to spend the day. Start the day with a coffee at Annie’s, then head on a hike to explore the ice caves. Spend the afternoon eating lunch and walking around Sicome Lake, then head to the Bow Valley Ranche House for dinner.
9. A Shirt From Tentree
Beyond having some incredibly cool designs, Tentree is one of the coolest brands out there because for every item purchased they plant ten trees. (Ten trees = Tentree … get it?). So not only are you going to make the Dad in your life stylish, you’re going to help the world around us, pretty cool right?
