Things To Do With Your Kids: The Calgary Tower

I recently wrote an article for Calgary Tourism titled 10 Reasons To Love The Calgary Tower, as 2018 marks its 50th anniversary.

Built to celebrate Canada’s 100th birthday in 1967, construction wrapped up in 1968. Now, 50 years later, it stands as an iconic and recognizable symbol of the city’s past and present.

A key landmark for the 1988 Olympics, Calgarians’ love for the Calgary Tower has grown year after year.

The Calgary Tower For Families

The Calgary Tower is a great trip for families as children can go up the tower for $9 and kids 3 and under are free. A visit to the Calgary Tower is an exciting way to teach kids more about the city’s past and present from 191 metres in the air. The stunning arial views give you a 360 degree view of the city, including a view of the mountains on a clear day! As a stay-at-home-dad I prefer trips during the week to avoid big crowds, but even on the weekends the Tower is a great trip.

Take A Field Trip

If you’re looking to get your kids school involved with the Calgary Tower before the end of the school year, or next fall the Calgary Tower offers great field trip choices.

The Upper Class Education Program (see what they did there?) provides options for kindergarten to grade 6 students. Students complete two main components including a hands-on activity and a technology-based activity.

Celebrate the Calgary Tower’s 50th Anniversary

Celebrate Calgary’s iconic landmark and 50 years of memories as the Tower celebrates its monumental anniversary on June 30th. A 60s-themed block party takes place on June 30th complete with FREE ice cream, music, food trucks, face painting and more.
