Things To Do With Your Kids: Tumble Time – Lake Bonavista

Most kids love running around and being active and Clara is no different. Recently she gave us a heart attack by doing her first ever somersault… off the couch on to the floor. By sheer luck she landed on a pillow and giggled and laughed at discovering a new way to move her body, while Dashing Mom and I checked that our hearts had started again.

I’ve mentioned before that we allow Clara to explore, climb and test her limits probably more than the average parent but it turns out we’re not the only ones.

In an effort to keep our kids safe, children’s ability to move and play is being restricted and structured more than ever. By saying “No climbing,” “That’s too dangerous,” “Get down from there,” and “No running,” we’re trying to protect them, however research shows that the drastic decline in risky play in kids is creating behaviour problems.

We combat that with lots of outdoor play, but on the days where it is just too cold (or smokey, as has been the case recently in Calgary) one of our favourite options is Tumble Time at the Lake Bonavista Rec Centre.

Tumble Time

Lake Bonavista’s Tumble Time is a 2 hour play time in their gym for kids 6 months old to 5 years old. It runs from mid-September to the end of May.

Clara and I spent a great deal of time there last winter and she loved it. It provided a great opportunity for her to interact with other kids. She learned how to climb, bounce and run all while Dad watched from a bench along the side.

Tumble Time includes balls, bouncy castles, slides, gym mats, and a whole assortment of toys. There is also a section for the young babies to play in Exersaucers or with baby toys along with their parent.
